At Lumsden Kindergarten we understand that parents only see a small window at the beginning and end of the day of what their child does in a session, therefore, the teachers and children  have created some short movies to showcase some of the AMAZING things our children  experience when they attend Lumsden Kindergarten.

The movie has been broken up into 4 sections.

Outside Experiences; Numeracy & Literacy; Art Experiences & Fun.

Outside Experiences;

When the children are outside we encourage them to take risks in a safe and friendly environment. When a child feels comfortable to take risks they are able to grow braver, develop their fundamental movement skills and build feelings of personal confidence, competence and independence.

We also teach a lot of ball skills from throwing, kicking, catching and shooting hoops. We work in the garden and climb our wonderful tree which becomes many things from a pirate ship, to a home to a fire engine.

Success is not measured by how fast or far a child can run or throw. It is measured by the smile on the child’s face upon achievement of accomplishing a goal.

You will see plenty of these during the movie.

Numeracy & Literacy;

At Lumsden Kindergarten we provide a literacy rich environment  in which children get opportunities to develop their reading, writing and maths interests.

Teachers are always looking at the developmental stages of each child and working with them at their own level and pace. We work towards taking them to the next level supporting their interest in early literacy and maths.

It is a well known fact that new entrant teachers in Hawkes Bay LOVE haivng children from Lumsden in their classrooms.

Art Experiences;

The creativity that the children show is so exciting and we love to nurture and extend this. As children create there is so much they are learning, such as hand-eye co ordination, maths, expression of feeling and ideas, and so on. Teachers love to help children explore their creative ideas and see where they will take them. The look of pride and joy on a child’s face when they complete their own original piece of art is priceless.

Having Fun;

We do a lot of AMAZING things at Lumsden but most importantly our Kindergarten is about  being happy, feeling secure, being loved, and having lots and lots of fun.
