PROFESSOR BARRY TAYLOR
Head of Paediatrics and Child Health at Otago University, Professor Taylor has recently completed a randomised trial of sleep intervention versus conventional advice for prevention of obesity in infants. With the rapidly increasing child obesity rates a national problem, a significant part of Professor Taylor’s research now focuses on prevention and management of this issue.

Wendy has 20 years’ experience in exercise training and health science, and a master’s degree in child development. She currently runs TimberNook, which offers nature-based child development programmes, and is Educational Director at Moving Smart and co-author of Move, Play, and Learn with Smart Steps. She knows how to get kids moving!
SIR GRAEME AVERY
Sir Graeme is Chair of the Hawkes Bay Community Fitness Centre Trust which is leading a major collaborative life-long research project on healthy lifestyles – from conception through the newborn to pre- and primary schools, and into adult life – in the fight against obesity. Sir Graeme said the success of these programmes would be measured on reducing the very high prevalence rates of obesity and physical inactivity in Hawke’s Bay.
