Gidday Mate – We re-visit Australia
Enrol Here24th of August 2011
Finn’s Grandparent’s were over from Australia so they came in and told us all about their beautiful county. It is also the country that Finn, Alexander and a few other Lumsden friends were born in so it is extra special to many of us.
We have learnt about Australian animals such as the koala, kangaroo, wombat, which are all marsupials. We have also learnt about Uluru – the biggest rock in the world, the Sydney Opera House, Aborigines, Hi 5, The Wiggles and the Irwin family.
We know many of our families have connections to Australia and it is also a popular holiday destination.

Paul, Safiya and Edward’s Dad, came to play his Didgeridoo at Lumsden. Paul lived in Australia for a little while and this is where he learnt how to play the Didgeridoo.
He told us that Didgeridoo’s are made by termites, tiny little bugs, that eat the inside of branches until they are hollow.
Paul also told us that when you play the Didgeridoo that you copy the sounds of animals that you can hear in the Australian bush. He made the sound of a Dingo and a Kookaburra. We were very impressed.
Paul then let us all have a turn at trying to play his Didgeridoo. He told us to fill our lungs and cheeks up with air and then blow ‘raspberries’ with our lips. Most of us gave it a go, but it was certainly a lot harder than it looks.

Alexander’s Dad, Philip, came in to talk about Australia. Philip works in Sydney. He and Alexander share a very special book with us, showing us wonderful pictures about special things in Australia.

We have really enjoyed re-visiting Australia and continuing to learn about the unique features of this country. As always, it is extra special that we have such wonderful support from out families who come in and share their knowledge and talents with everyone at Lumsden. Research states that this makes it so much more meaningful for children.
Hey there, BIG thanks for this nice list! This is what I’ve been looking for. For me as a new programmer, this will help much. Greets
