Resilience

(1) The ability of people or things to recover quickly after something unpleasant.

(2) The ability of a substance to return to its original shape after it has been bent, stretched or pressed.

Judy Hunter is a Child Mental Health and Well-Being Specialist who has her own consulting/education business, Kōhuri Education Co. She works with our children at Lumsden presenting the Mindfulness programme, where she helps children understand their big feelings and how to self manage them.

Judy’s interests and specialities include parent/teacher education, using mindfulness as a tool for mental health and well-being, and promoting secure attachment relationships and healthy brain development in the early years.

In her training workshop on resilience, Judy explains what resilience is, why it’s important and how parents/caregivers can foster it in their children. She shines a light on the role of positive stress in children’s lives, and highlights the unique interplay of temperament in growing a resilient child.
