Our Mission

  • Empowered team, collaborating to implement our philosophy in practice

  • Intentional environments and resources, purposefully contributing to stories of learning

  • Be recognised as having a great leadership and mentoring culture in Early Childhood education

Our Philosophy

Committed to excellence in early childhood education, we empower children to express their identity and thrive with integrity.

Our clear vision propels us forward, recognising the potential in everyone. Through a culturally responsive curriculum, we celebrate achievements and actively engage in learning to deepen our connection with the world. Forming friendships fosters collaboration, and trusting relationships nurture self-belief. We share life interests through stories, bridging the past, present, and possible futures.

Teaching is a source of delight, inviting others to engage in encounters that expand their worldview, fostering a lifelong desire for exploration and inquiry in every child.

Our Teaching & Learning Priorities

Fostering relationships & self-belief

Our staff realise the importance of establishing trusting connections with whānau, so that tamariki feel safe and secure to develop and learn holistically away from home. Kaiako are intentional in their encouragement and support of tamariki as they develop social and emotional competencies while exploring the world and discovering their place in it.

Opening little minds to the big world

We promote curiosity and exploration, encouraging tamariki to communicate and express their identity through language, multimodal literacy, culture, movement and play. Lumsden tamariki are affirmed as individuals as they learn to embrace diversity through Countries of The World studies, languages and local legends.

Creative and confident researchers

Active discovery enables tamariki to develop and refine their working theories and instils a love of learning, ensuring tamariki have a voice, are listened to and have opportunities to contribute. They are encouraged to learn and grow through sharing their creations, testing their abilities and owning their emotions.

Encouraging exploration and independence

Lumsden tamariki have a strong sense of self-worth and pride in their achievements. They are encouraged to engage in age-appropriate risk-taking experiences, inspiring their motivation to learn and feel empowered, and achieving balance for the mind, body and spirit. Mana is nurtured and enhanced through caring and responsive interactions with kaiako.
